2020 Holiday Gift Guide: For the Home

This is probably my favorite of the gift guides this season. With quarantine forcing so many of us to spend a LOT more time at home than usual, these are some of my favorite at-home gifts to give (and receive). I’ve recently purchased almost everything on this list in the past few months, so I am prepared to survive (and thrive) this winter in Boston.

Pottery Barn Sherpa Throw: This is my FAVORITE cozy up on the couch blanket. I have both the red and the gray check throws. It’s super warm and cozy, and machine washable as well. I’ve given this as a gift quite a few times over the years and it’s always been a major hit.

Eddie Bauer Outdoor BlanketSo with everyone spending more time outdoors, this is my go-to outdoor blanket for chilly nights on the roofdeck in the city. It’s on super sale right now (50% off as of 11/24) if you buy direct on Eddie Bauer. My aunt got me one of these for my housewarming last year and I recently bought another as we’re trying to extend outdoor time in Boston as long as possible this year.

Bearaby Weighted Napper: I want this. I can’t tell you yet if the price tag is worth it. But I love the look of this blanket. I have a weighted blanket that I use at night and it’s really great. But do I need one that is 5x the price because it looks so much cuter? Probably. Right? Anyway, I think I saw this once on Instagram and clicked on it, so now I’ve been followed around every website this week with every digital ad taunting me with this blanket. Maybe if it goes on super sale, or if Santa is reading this, the Moonstone color in 20lbs looks perfect.

The Sill Subscription: I’m going to include The Sill in every gift guide this year because I just love it so much. Love the plants. Love the planters. Love how nice they come packaged. Love having another living organism in my apartment when I work from home. And the subscription is the gift that keeps on giving. Just as genius as a coffee subscription (which I heard was a thing earlier this year. What a time to be alive.) Note: The subscription has been so popular you’ll have to get on a waitlist to be alerted when it becomes available again. In the meantime, you can start with these great beginner duos

Brooklinen Luxe Sheets: Guys. We’re at the age where we can get excited over sheets and towels. On my boss lady chat we have all been exchanging our recommendations for the best sheets and towels recently, and several of us are all big fans of the Brooklinen Luxe Sheets. They are awesome quality and SO silky smooth. I feel like I am slipping into a cocoon of silky relaxation when I get into bed at night. Buy these. Especially while they are doing Black Friday super sales right now. You won’t regret it.

Brooklinen Super Plush Towels: And while we’re getting excited about sheets, how about super plush towels?! I feel like every time I tout an upscale essential I really have to prove it’s worth the price tag. I LOVE these towels. The bath sheets are huge. They live up to their super plush name. And they are great quality and last a long time. Plus, you need to shower every day. So a towel is an essential. Ispo facto, you can totally justify the cost. But channel your inner extreme couponer and jump on these sales so you’ll feel even better about wrapping yourself in this cocoon of cotton joy. (How many times will I say cocoon in this post?)

The Company Store Down Comforter: So I was recently giving my bedroom a refresh and my comforter was long overdue for an upgrade. I spent way too long researching all different types of Duvet inserts and comforters, and finally landed on this Legends® Hotel Alberta™ Down Comforter from The Company Store. It was highly rated in several comforter comparisons. I’ve also heard great things about the Parachute brand, but man I LOVE this comforter. Like a warm goose feather cocoon? No. Doesn’t quite work. But truly. It’s super soft. Doesnt make any crunchy noise when moving around. It’s just super super warm and cozy.

Rewined Candle: This is my go-to gift candle, especially as a housewarming or hostess gift (well, when hostessing is a thing again). They are made in recycled wine bottles and have wine scents as their standard candles, with lots of delicious smelling seasonal scents like spiked cider and under the tree.

Bubble Tent: While this might seem like a random addition, this is a 2020 essential. I bought a bubble tent to extend my roofdeck time this winter, as a way to maintain some sanity as we are stuck in quarantine. I like this better than the giant igloos not only because it’s way more affordable, but it’s very easy to pop up and take down anytime you want to use it.My advice: read the measurements carefully. I got the 10×10 bubble tent which comfortable seats about 2-3 people. The actual width of the base measures closer to 7.5 feet, so I probably could have gotten the 12×12 for my space. Anyway, we’ve used it a few times so far with a little space heater and are looking forward to warm winter drinks in the bubble. You can usually score a coupon on this when ordering directly from Alvantor’s website.

Originally I had a few other stay-at-home essentials on the list, but they didn’t make the cut. Here are a few at-home-gift-guide honorable mentions:

  • OXO Corn De-CobberYou didn’t know it existed, now you wonder how you ever lived without it.
  • Milk Frother – Since I’m not going out for coffee almost ever anymore, I’m very into frothing oat milk or almond milk for my morning coffee.
  • Giant Tea Mug – my mom got me this and I probably drink 10 cups a tea a day now because of it (caffeine free, calm down, I’m fine)
  • Electric Tea Kettle: I got this to make me drink more tea during the day without the excuse of not wanting to deal with the kettle on the stove. It’s amazing, totally should have bought this sooner.
