White Trash Mix

White Trash Mix has been one of my favorite recipes since I was little. Not only because of how quick and easy it is to make, but because it’s the ultimate combination of salty and sweet. It’s so addicting that if I’m making this for a party, it’s one of last things I will prepare, otherwise it’s at risk of being gone before guests arrive. The great thing about this mix is that you can modify the ingredients to your own taste, or use up whatever rando ingredients you have left in the pantry. While it may not have the most glamorous name, this White Trash Mix proves you can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

I was first introduced to this sweet treat in elementary school when my friend Ashley’s mom would always make a batch in the afternoons when we were hanging out. It quickly became a snack time staple whenever I would have friends over my house. I think the sheer fact that it can be prepped start to finish in under an hour with only two ingredients is reason enough to have this as part of your go-to dessert routine.

It’s also an easy treat to brighten up your dessert tables for whatever the occasion. I always have lots of colorful nonpareils in my baking cabinet that I will sprinkle on top before the chocolate sets, like I did with this holiday version.

If you don’t want to use store-bought Chex Mix, you can always make your own using a combination of whatever ingredients you have on hand: mini-pretzels, Rice Chex, Corn Chex, peanuts, Cheerios, Goldfish crackers or whatever else floats your boat. There’s no exact science to this recipe, so I just recommend slowly adding in your ingredients until you feel like there’s an even-enough coating of chocolate over the batch before spreading it out to chill. When I make this gluten-free, I use the Corn and Rice Chex, gluten-free pretzels and some peanuts.

I picked up a bunch of cute little treat bags from Target this holiday season, and gifted my friends and family a small bag of White Trash Mix along with the cookie trays I put together. So the next time you’re looking for a quick recipe that’s a definite crowd pleaser, whip up a batch of this no-bake White Trash Mix!

White Trash Mix

Yield: 1 Batch (about 8 servings)

Prep Time: 5 Minutes

Cook Time: 45 Minutes (Chill Time)

Total Time: 50 Minutes

White Trash is one of my favorite quick two-ingredient recipes that has always been a major crowd pleaser!

Ingredients:

  • One 8.75 ounce bag of traditional Chex Mix
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Prep a baking sheet with either non-stick spray or parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, melt white chocolate chips in the microwave, stopping to stir every 30 seconds or less to make sure it does not burn or clump together.
  3. Once the chocolate is completely melted, fold in the entire bag of Chex Mix with a spatula until it is evenly coated.
  4. Spread the chocolate covered mix out onto the baking sheet. If you're making this for a special occasion, top with sprinkles to make it more festive.
  5. Chill in the fridge for at least 45 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set. Break into big chunks and serve in a bowl. Enjoy!
